FACTS You Need to Know About the Apple iPhone Slow Down / Battery Fiasco

So we have been asked hundreds of times about the Apple iPhone Slow Down Battery Fiasco. In case you’ve been under a rock or sick with the awful flu that’s going around, you can read about how Apple is slowing down phones with older batteries here and how they apologized and offered a discount to replace the battery here.  Many iPhone users are asking us why we aren’t matching the Apple price.

Remember, that Apple’s NORMAL price is $79.95, and they are only offering this promotional price after they admitted to misleading users and slowing down your iPhone – which you are now having to pay them to fix! For some, this point alone is enough to make them not want to have Apple replace the battery! But in case you don’t harbor the same angst as others, here are the OTHER facts that might affect your choice of where to get your battery replaced and speed up your phone as they relate to several options for replacement:

Option #1 – Replace your battery at the Apple Store

Apple will replace your battery for $29.95

  • Closest locations to Chattanooga: Atlanta, Knoxville, Birmingham (drive time is approximately 2 hours)
  • You must make an appointment. Earliest appointments are 4 weeks out.
  • Stand in line at the Genius Bar for your appointment = 10 – 60 minutes
  • You have to remove the ‘Find-my-iPhone’ and erase your iPhone before the repair can begin. (Be sure to backup your device) = 30-60 minutes
  • Your iPhone will be restored to factory settings at the Apple Store
  • Average wait time for the repair to be completed = 4 hours
  • Drive back to Chattanooga = 2 hours
  • Restore your iPhone data from backup = 30-60 minutes

Total Time = 4 weeks, 8-9 hours

Total Cost = $29.95 + Tax + Gas for your car

Option #2 – Replace your battery at an Apple Affiliate Store (Simply Mac at Hamilton Place here in Chattanooga, TN)

Apple will replace your battery for $29.95

  • If they are out of stock (which they DO NOT as of this post in January 2018, nor will until April 2018) they will SHIP your iPhone to Apple in California for the repair.
  • You have to remove the ‘Find-my-iPhone’ and erase your iPhone before the iPhone can be shipped. (Be sure to backup your device) = 30-60 minutes
  • Drive to Simply Mac = 10 – 45 minutes
  • Stand in line waiting for your name to be called = 10 – 60 minutes
  • Drive back home = 10 – 45 minutes
  • Average turnaround time = 5-7 days
  • Drive AGAIN to Simply Mac to pick up your iPhone = 10 – 45 minutes
  • Drive back home AGAIN = 10 – 45 minutes
  • Restore your iPhone data from backup = 30-60 minutes
  • If they have the battery in stock (which they DO NOT until April 2018) it is a 4-hour turnaround time.

Total Time = 5-7 days if not in stock | 4 hours if in stock

Total Cost = $29.95 + Tax + $6.95 for shipping | $29.95 + Tax
