Reminders – Based on where, not when

Wow!  What a concept…reminders based on where I am at, or where I am going/leaving and not based on time!

This has to be one of the COOLEST features in iOS7!  I don’t know about you, but having the ability to set a reminder based on where I am or where I’m going is really helpful.

Now, don’t get me wrong….reminders for things that have to happen at a certain time is important.  But you have to admit, sometimes it would be nice to be reminded about things when it actually happens or is needed…not at a pre-set time.

And it is a simple change of thinking (and a easy setting) when you set your reminders in your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch:

1) My kids ran out of their favorite food: Mac & Cheese.  Surely, I won’t remember to get this the next time I’m at the store because it’s not my favorite food, but if I set it up like this….

Reminder: “Get more macaroni and cheese”
Setting: When I am arriving at the grocery store.
My iPhone will notify me when I am pulling into the parking lot of my grocery store!

2) I happened to leave the office later today than anticipated.  My “typical” reminder to pick up my dry cleaning went off an hour ago, when I was supposed to leave the office.  I got all the way home and my wife asked where her newly cleaned dress and my freshly pressed suit were for our date at the Royal Ball tomorrow. If I would have changed my thinking from when to where like this:

Reminder: “Pickup dry-cleaning”
Setting: When I am leaving OopsRepair Offices
My iPhone will notify me as I leave my parking lot to get the dry cleaning independent of when I leave! What a time saver!

The possibilities are limitless!  Never let your “to-do’s” get off schedule again!

Speakerphone only? Can you hear me now?

Do you have to use your iPhone on speakerphone so the people on the other end can hear you? This is because the microphone on the bottom of your iPhone isn’t working.

When you switch to speakerphone, your iPhone switches to the other microphone located on the top of your iPhone.  This is also the microphone it uses for FaceTime.  (So if those on the other side of your FaceTime calls can’t hear you…your top microphone is defective).

You don’t have to live with this annoyance!  This is EASILY fixable and takes less than 30 minutes to repair!  As a matter of fact, whether it is the top or bottom microphone on an iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPhone 5C, or iPhone 5S it is the same price for our techs to get you fixed up and talking like “normal” again.

Search for text in Safari on your iPhone, iPad or iPod

Searching for a word or phrase on a web page? In Safari, type in the word or phrase in the search bar on the top right and tap Search. In the results page, scroll all the way down and you will see how many words were found on the current page. Tap on the searched word/phrase and you will be directed back to the web page with the searched word/phrase highlighted in yellow. Click the arrows at the bottom of your screen to filter through each instance.

Too many friends named Bubba!

I don’t know about all the rest of ya’ll….but here in the south, I got too many friends named Bubba and Cleetus in my iPhone!  And with iOS7, I keep gettin’ ’em all mixed up and stuff when I’m textin’ away ‘cuz only their first name shows up in my text window! (It ain’t cool when I text Bubba Overalls about borrowing a shotgun when I meant to text Bubba Peashooter to get rid of that pesky coon in my backyard!) Don’t you pretend like you don’t know what I’m talkin’ about!

Maybe all you teenagers with a bazillion contacts in your iPhones or all you fancy business folks are running into that same problem too.

I need their last names too!

Fortunately, there is a way:

1) Go to Settings –> Mail, Contacts, Calendars –> Short Name

2) Turn Short Name to “OFF”

Never mix-up your Bubba’s again!

Are you getting motion sickness from your iOS7 background?

Did you upgrade to iOS7 and wish you could just have a static background like you used to in iOS6?  In the words of Rob Schneider in the movie Waterboy…”You can do it!”

How to make the screen background stop moving

1) Go to Settings –> General –> Accessibility and turn Reduce Motion to “ON”

Plant your feet on solid ground once again and enjoy your static background without the ‘wobble-wobble’.

Need a Quick Charge?

If you’re like me and only have 10 – 15 minutes to get a quick charge on your iPhone before it dies (and you don’t have charger where you are going), try this:

1) Place you iPhone in “Airplane Mode” (Swipe finger up from bottom part of your screen in iOS7 to access your control panel)

2) Then plug it into your charger.

It will charge twice as fast…just don’t forget to turn Airplane mode off when you’re done, otherwise you can’t make/receive any calls or texts!
